About Me

The real Eefje My name is Evy. Some people also call me Eefje. I am a VetMed student, a foodie and a cat person. I live with my dear husband Norbert and 6 felines in a small town, south of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. My cat army consists of 4 house cats, 1 silver Maine Coon, and 1 seal point Ragdoll. They are all indoor cats and they make our house very cozy. In addition to my interest in food and cats, I am also addicted to bookstores, (cook)books, art goodies, and eating out. Oh, and coffee, of course! I like strong Dutch coffee. However, I still regret that there is no Starbucks in Holland (outside Schiphol Airport). As for artists and paintings, I like the work of Rembrandt, Johannes Vermeer, and Jan Steen. My newest interests are horses and horse riding.

Why Blob[p]?

Blob is the nick name of one of our cats. She is completely black with the exception of a few white hairs on her neck. When I chose the name, I was not sure if the correct spelling is Blob or Blop. I was too lazy to consult a dictionary, so I just went ahead and registered blobp.com. I also managed to set up a blog and I gave the blog a name: Gastrono-Me.

Why Gastrono-Me?

The blog was originally not meant to be an illustrated blog or a sketchblog. At first, it was only for my rambling. Then, I was so into cooking and made major purchases of cookbooks. One of them was the huge Larousse Gastronomique. Cool term, I thought. Gastronomy. Hmmm…and Gastrono-Me was born. I planned to write lots and lots of recipes, cooking experiments, and so on. Well, I could not keep up with it. It turned out that I am actually not that imaginative when it comes to cooking. I just like to follow recipes and modify them to my taste. I am not up to inventing a dish from scratch.
At some point, I wanted to pick-up drawing/sketching again or even painting. I used to do these activities a few years ago, so why not try it again. At that time I was also in need of a (new) hobby. Through some surfing online, I found some inspiring sites on creativity. Since then, I have been using Gastrono-Me as a place where I show my drawings, sketches, and possibly other artwork. Once in a while I post my ramblings, recipes, and other things. However, it is mainly about Me exploring my creative side.
