Update

Phew! At last I can breathe again!
My ‘doom’ period lasted longer than I thought. It was just not such a fine time. I was busy, and unfortunately I felt down at the same time. In combination with the Thanksgiving dinner, where in the end I had to go home late, it was just too much for me. I got sick last week Monday. I did not go to work until Thursday and could not work. It was a very very bad cold. I felt like a dying fish (slimy and could not breathe, had to gasp for air every second). What I could do during daytime was try to sleep with a huge headache on the couch accompanied by several cats. The cats have been very helpfull. How? It was cold outside, but inside the house I felt even colder due to the cold and fever I had. The cats provided me with some extra body heat on top of the blanket I was using. So it was very cozy!.
Now I can breathe again. It is not yet back to normal, but it is getting there. However I am still trying to get over this ‘doom’ period and to get some more confidence back. I just have to try to face the world instead of hide.

Since the last post, I only managed to get a few sketches done. Often I didn’t feel like sketching. However, I forced my self to do some, which actually helped me feel better. I am hoping that I will get back to do 3-4 sketches a week again soon.

I did the above sketch on the train, before I got sick. I had a guidebook for Brussel with me, but I couldn’t figure out if we should go to Brussel or Frankfurt for a daytrip. I still can’t.

Just a doodle.

After I got a bit of my strength back, I made the sketch above. I used dip pen and ink (bordeaux/burgundy) and watercolor.

  1. So glad you’re back and feeling better! These are absolutely wonderful and energetic drawings—I’m happy I thought to check here tonight. Thought about you as we flew in and out of Amsterdam this weekend.

  2. So glad you are feeling better. I’ve had those doom periods too. Can be very loggy, sleepy slow time. When I feel this way, I take to my bed “Victorian” style with all pampering I can think of.
I think your drawing therapy is wonderful. Lovely work, as always.
Look forward to coming back for a visit.

  3. I hope you will be good soon.

I love your drawings particularly the last one, maybe for the colour.

  6. So sorry that you’ve been sick AND gloomy, but it sure is good to see you back! Cats on the bed are just the best things for cold feet, aren’t they … sounds comforting. Great sketches, as always!

  7. Glad that the doom period is over Evy and we can enjoy your sketches again!

  8. I can’t tell you how many times I checked your blog and was concerned that there were no posts after the “doom” one. I’m so glad you’re climbing out of that abyss, and yes the drawings are a good sign of that! Yay for the cozy lovingness of cats and for a way back to Light.

  9. These are wonderful drawings. I love all those pencils in the background and the crumpled paper in the first one.
