Tomatoes

This is actually an another experiment, based on a book that I have. Usually I draw my subject first using pen and ink, then apply watercolor over it. For this one, it was the other way around. Something new that I had never tried before. It was fun and more spontaneous! My sketch does not look as neat as the example shown in the book, but I think it looks pretty good.

Ooh! That’s my favorite way to do it! I’d agree — it feels much more spontaneous, doesn’t it!
This is wonderful — I love the shine on those tomatoes.

Lovely painting. I love the highlights on the tomatoes and the shading. Sometimes I color the features first on portraits. It’s almost like a sketch before I actually draw it.

Thanks Linda and Janey. This method does put sketching and painting into a different perspective (at least to me). Sketching with paint first, like Janey said. Then ‘paint’ with my pen last.
