20 Things About Me
I’ve been tagged by Maggie. So now I need to list 20 things about myself. I’d like to thank Maggie for letting me use hers as guidelines. Well, here we go:
1. I love Asian food. I like American and European food as well, especially Mediterannean cuisine. Eventhough I like European food, I find French/Dutch/German cuisine rather bland.
2.However, I love to eat Dutch food in the winter. It’s the ultimate comfort food. My favorite is Boerenkool stamppot met rookworst (Mashed potato with kale served with smoke sausage). Hachee (Dutch beef stew with lots of onions) is also another favorite of mine. I dislike Hutspot (Mashed potato with lots of onion and carrot, usually served with some meat), I won’t eat this. Why? Because….
3. I hate carrots. I get nauseaus from the smell and the taste of carrots.
4. I lived in Stillwater, Oklahoma for about 5 years and San Francisco for about 3 years. I met Nor in San Francisco.
5. In the past, I wasn’t into cats at all. I didn’t have any pets, until 5 years ago. Nor introduced me to the joy of having cats and now we end up with 8 kitties as housemates.
6. I wanted to become a cat breeder. But due to lack of time and courage, I decided not to. It does take some courage to do, especially during difficult moments such as during difficult labor with problems, when there is a sick kitten, etc. I don’t think I can handle the stress.
7.I’ve been lusting after a yellow superbike Ducati 749 for quite sometime now, but for that I need to win a lottery.
8. I always eat Vietnamese loempia (eggroll) for breakfast/brunch on Saturdays. This is a routine. Once I get to the market stand, I order: 1. regular loempia; 2. loempia special; 3. a portion/6 small pieces of pangsit (fried wonton); and 4. another regular loempia provided that I am still starving. I know, this can’t be considered as a healthy breakfast. But to me, this beats 2 slices of bread and butter with ham and cheese.
9. My dream vacation destination is the Maldives. We’ve been planning to go there for a couple of years now, but we haven’t been able to realize the plan.
10. I like the work of ‘older’ masters like Rembrandt, Vermeer, Jan Steen, and even older ones such as Carravagio, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Leonardo da Vinci.
11. I can’t swim. Well, I actually can but only one style and very bad. Therefore, I don’t like to swim in the sea and won’t.
12. I am addicted to watching Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) on tv. My favorite is CSI Las Vegas with Grissom.
13. I don’t eat fruit. I only eat it, if it is already cleaned, peeled and cut up.
14. I don’t drive. I let my driver’s license expire years ago. I hate to be stucked in the traffic jam. I don’t like careless and rude fellow drivers. I let Nor drive our car and I go everywhere by public transportation. But public transport can also be a pain sometimes.
15. I am afraid of walking on a floor made from glass or any transparent/translucent materials, and especially if the floor is located high up, e.g. glass bridge. With great difficulty, I may be able to cross to the other side. But I will certainly have sweaty hands and shaky knees.
16. I dislike arrogance.
17. It is not easy for me to make a conversation. After a short while, I always end up asking myself….what am I supposed to say next?…
18. I always feel uncomfortable, when I am the only one who is different in a room. Different: being young/the youngest and being the only female and also being the only non-caucasian. In this kind of situations (usually at a congress/forum/conference here), I stand out (too much) from the rest of the crowd, which I don’t like.
19. I drink 3-4 cups of (strong dutch) coffee with sugar in the morning on a regular day. In the afternoon, I drink mostly water or sometimes chinese jasmine tea. When I have a deadline, I drink 6 - 8 cups of coffee. This can give me the boost that I need or it can backfire and make me even more tired.
20. I am obsessed with books (is there such thing as book fetish?). It doesn’t really matter what kind of book it is and what the content is. It can be a blank too (a journal). The thickness matters the most; the thicker the better. When I see a thick book, my hands itch to grab it and run to the check out counter as fast as possible.

Evy,
You are very welcome and your list has been a pleasure reading.
What interesting facts about you! I love all the illustrations you drew to go along with each one, quite clever and well done!!! Sort of a mini book… THe pink San Francisco spot with you in a hat is my favorite I think.
CSI is also my husband’s favorite show, though for me I love the investigation part however the story lines are often too sad and upset me.
It would be nice if we could meet and just sit and chat over a coffee or tea.
Thank you for sharing!
Will you be tagging anyone else now?

Wow, that was so well done. The small drawings added so much. I particularly liked the homage to Vameer’s “Girl with the Pearl Earring” Nicely done.
You accomplished the mission. I feel like I know you better than I did before.
I can’t wait to see how Laura responds to this..
Thanks for this.

Interesting list Evy! I love Ducatis too (my Dad and brother used to race) I’m too short to ride them. We share a couple of other things too - lovely to get to know a little more about you.

oh wow. you did tag me! You’re so sweet. Well Evy, one thing I can tell you about myself is that I can’t think of 20 things about myself that would make a very interesting read these days. Other than the sketchcrawl, life has been pretty blah. But If you’d like a personal rundown at some point I’d be happy to give it to you. Life is bit insane at the moment so it might have to wait a little while…
meanwhile, I love your list. especially #15-walking on glass. You’re like a cat.
You’re work is looking great these days. I’m very jealous of your patience and style.

I share #10-12 with you. I love the little illustrations!

Amanda: my style? me? patient?
I don’t think I am patient at all actually. On the contrary! And I think my style shows my impatience. Now, if I could just do details like you do….
donab: thanks for your comment and your visit!
