Pirozjki

Pirozjki was sitting in front of the window. Something outside caught her interest. It was a chance for me to quickly sketch her for the first time. I found back my two Venetian glass pens last weekend. Since then I had the urge to use it. So I thought that tonight was perfect for that. I used india ink (waterproof) and colored it with grey and black ecoline (waterbased ink). I am quite happy with the result of this quick sketch.

  1. I would be quite happy with a sketch like that, too! This is marvelous … and how nice that kitty held still long enough for you to do it!

  3. The contrasts between the white and shadows are wonderful. It gives intensity to what (by other catlovers) might have been mundane. This could be a cool poster.

  4. Thank you Linda, Victorie, and Nita! Linda: the kitty moved her head quite a few times, but she took her original position again and again. So I was lucky that she didn’t take on a completely different pose while I was sketching her.

  5. The shadowing on Pirozjki (how do you pronounce this?)is quite effective. Cats are always on the lookout aren’t they?

  6. Thanks Maggie! The ‘zj’ is pronounced as ’sh’. I am actually not sure if that is the correct spelling, since I believe it is spelled different in each eastern european country. We picked ‘zj’ because it looks more exotic than Pirogi or Piroshki…he he…
