Just as some other members of the Everyday Matters group, I really like Tom Judd’s work. All of those overlapping lines and doodles. It’s so exciting!. So I also decided to give it a try. Despite the bad day that I had yesterday, it ended really well because of this journal page! It was so much fun to do. The result suprised me. I didn’t intend to make it look cartoony, but it turned out that way. May be it’s just my ’style’. Next time I will try to be a bit looser and may be put less stuff on the page. This one looks just a tad too densed.
Oh and I am planning to color this one too. I will post the result sometime this week.
Note: that derailed train…I didn’t make it up, it was real and mentioned on the radio, in the news.

  1. Ha, this is really fun! It doesn’t look like it was your best day, though and I’m sorry you had a stressful one ;D. Getting it all down on paper was probably helpful, though! I look forward to seeing it colored.

  2. This works so well! Apparently as an emotional relief (that’s a plus!), but also as a composition of tracks and train that pulls the eye around in a nice flow. Super job!

  3. You’ve filled it up with great images. I look forward to seeing this in color, but it looks great as linework too. :)

  4. There’s so much energy in this drawing Evy. I think we can all identify with days like that. :o ) I love the way you dealt with it. Talk about turning a negative into a positive.

  5. Evy, this looks like it was tremendous fun to draw! You’re probably right — I think a lot of us EDM folks are going to be trying Tom Judd style pages.

By the way, I added a link to you on my blog — please let me know if that’s not okay and I’ll take it off right away! Thanks!

  6. I love this. I do have a question though. To do this would you start with the things that are “in front first”? Then go from there? I am going to have to give this a try! This is great!

  7. You’ve composed this very well - I haven’t figured out how to do that yet. Look forward to seeing the coloured version.

  8. This looks brilliant - I love it. What I like specifically is the “stream of conscience” aspect of the drawing. That, and the fact that I like this kind of drawing style! :)

  9. thank you very much for taking the time to visit my site and the only medium I used out side of ink was some coffee I spilled on the page the night before. Best of all your visit allowed me a chance to visit your site and witness your most excellent drawings. If it’s all right with you I’d like to use your drawing entitled, “De Gedempte Begijnensloot te Amsterdam” has my desktop image of the day. Thanks again.

  10. I really like it-you used Judd’s style, but you have made it very much your own.
